AIM OF THE COURSE
The Course aims at carving out graduates in Optometry who will be well versed in
-
Helping the Ophthalmologist in his practice
- Do refraction, contact lens fitting and orthoptic assessment independently
- Involve and do special investigative procedures.
- To operate and maintain Ophthalmic instruments
- To maintain Ophthalmic theatre and Operating Instruments
- To run and establish an Optical shop.

ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS
Candidates for admission to the course shall have passed the Pre-degree examination of the Kerala University or any other examination equivalent thereto, recognised by the Kerala University with 50% marks in Science subjects Group II in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with usual relaxation allowed by Government of Kerala for scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and other backward classes.

COURSE OF STUDY
The course shall comprise of both theoretical and practical studies in different branches of Optometry and its related subjects.

DURATION OF THE COURSE
The duration of the course shall be 3 (three) years. Approximately 250 working days in an year with a minimum of 6 hours per day which works approximately 1450 working hours per year. After the 3rd year, they have to do a compulsory rotation internship in various specialist departments for one year.
